Significance of the Maha Kumbh Mela
The Maha Kumbh Mela originates from the mythological event Samudra Manthan, where gods and demons churned the ocean to obtain the nectar of immortality. During Samudra Manthan, a few drops of nectar (Amrit) fell at four locations: Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain, and Nashik.

Pilgrims can also book accommodation from the official IRCTC Tourism website at www.irctourism.com/mahakumbhgram. You can also check information on available accommodations, types, and prices on these websites.
Once you get an idea of the available accommodations, you can choose the tent type ranging from 1500 per night to 30000 per night, depending on your budget and required amenities. After selecting the tent type, choose your stay dates while considering the key dates for the puja and shahi snan mentioned above. Please ensure that after making an online payment, you receive confirmation of your reservation.
Special Train and Food arrangement by IRCTC
The Ministry of Railways recently announced 992 special trains running from 12th January to 28th February 2025. Extra trains have also been added, which have an additional stop at Prayagraj and nearby areas. The railway is also deploying 174 longer trains to accommodate the increased passenger load.
IRCTC has introduced an option for all passengers to select Satvik food, which includes Veg Thali, Khichdi, Sabudana Khichdi, Fruit Platters, and milk-based desserts such as Kheer and Halwa.
